Family

Únor 9, 2007

A typical British family used to consist of mother, father and 2 children, but in recent years there have been changes in family life.
Main changes are caused by new laws and by changes in society. Since law enable to get divorce, the number of divorces have increased. One marriage in every three now ends in divorce. This means that there are a lot of one-parent families. In spite of increase of divorces, marriages are still popular and the majority of people that marry again are trying to take responsibility for their second family.
Society s now more tolerant than it used to be of unmarried people or couples, singles and homosexuals. People live longer nowadays, and many old people live alone.
Member of family are still keeping in touch, but they see less each other. Relationships within the family are different now. Parents treat their children more as equals than they used to, and children have more freedom to make their own decisions. The father is more involved with bringing up children.
